Earlier this year Aislinn Leahy was at home with her son Aaron-James, who has autism and finds it extremely difficult to communicate, when she suddenly became extremely ill. Aislinn required urgent medical attention but was unable to make the call for help herself. Aaron-James took it upon himself to try to get help for his Mum. He managed to unlock her mobile phone and dial 999 to call an ambulance. Despite his communication struggles, he was able to direct the ambulance to their house and keep Aislinn calm at the same time.
Aislinn was taken to hospital and ended up requiring emergency surgery. If it wasn’t for her son’s quick thinking and initiative, things could have been a lot worse.
