Our motivation to get through Monday is that Pancake Tuesday is tomorrow! One bowl, one pot and the kids can indulge themselves and eat with their hands! To celebrate we’ve put down our favourite pancake recipes for you to try at home. There’s some that will thrill the kids and some that will tickle adult taste buds too!
Baby’s first pancake
100g plain flour
A generous pinch of salt
300 ml milk
50g melted butter
- Sift the flour and salt into a large mixing bowl. Make a well in the centre and add the eggs.
- Use a balloon whisk to incorporate the eggs into the flour and gradually whisk in the milk until just smooth.
- Brush a heavy based 15 -18cm/6-7 inch frying pan with melted butter, and when hot, pour in about 2 tablespoons of the batter.
- Quickly tilt the pan from side to side to form a thin layer of batter and cook for 1 minute.
- Flip the pancake over with a spatula and cook until the underside is slightly golden.
- Continue with the rest of the batter, brushing the pan with melted butter when necessary.

The pancake bear
Make your usual pancake batter (that’s 100g flour, one large egg, 300ml milk and a dash of oil or butter for frying to make around eight pancakes) – but this time get craft with the frying pan!
Fry a large pancake for the head, and fry two small arm shapes separately. Use blueberries for eyes and a nose, and cut up strawberries to create ears, body and a tail. (It’s a great way to get some fruit into their meals!)
Pancakes for the adults
Make your pancake batter -that’s 100g flour, one large egg, 300ml milk and a dash of oil or butter for frying to make around eight pancakes.
Peanut butter pancakes
This one couldn’t be simpler – just whip up your batter mix as usual, use a separate bowl to beat together an egg, 1/3 cup of peanut butter and a can of evaporated milk, then pour it into the main mixture and get frying.
If you prefer your batter a little boozy, try whisking ¾ of a cup of Baileys and 2/3 of a cup of milk into three tablespoons of butter, two tablespoons of sugar, an egg and a pinch of salt. Add 1 ¾ cup of flour and, if you’re really spoiling yourself, a handful of chocolate chips.
