We’re long-time fans of food entrepreneur Annabel Karmel, who has been instrumental in weaning of many children on these shores over the years with her excellent series of books and recipes designed to make the transition to solids as easy as possible for both baby and parent. And many of her recipes have proven so popular with the babies among maternity & infant staff members that they’re still staples even as those children reach school-going age.

Annabel’s business started when she noticed a gap in the market during the rearing of her own kids. Her company grew quite literally from the kitchen table into a massive enterprise that has produced 40 books, a range of food, weaning equipment and a growing online presence. As we know, there are lots of other mums out there who have noticed similar gaps in the market after having children of their own, and some brave souls have taken the plunge to try and create a business out of it.
Now, Annabel has told the story of her business and combined it with some top advice in her book Mumpreneur, with the aim of giving these brave mums an inspirational “push”. Filled with practical tips and expert advice, Annabel draws on her own experience in juggling motherhood and a growing business, while getting further advice from other mumpreneurs, such as Chrissie Rucker, the founder of The White Company. There’s lots of solid business knowledge in here, but what we really like is the focus on developing your idea and getting the confidence to go out there and really do it. Even if you are not contemplating a business, there’s plenty in here to inspire you to do what you want to do in life – and to help you get over the hurdles you encounter.
