New study looks at parents’ preferences in different weaning styles
Weaning styles and preferences are different for every family. Some parents prefer the tried and tested spoon fed weaning, while others opt for the baby led style, which sees the baby handle food and feed themselves.
Vital Baby commissioned a survey highlighting the changing trends in weaning, and how it has developed over the years.
- 64 per cent of parents opted for a combination of traditional and modern approaches when it came to introducing solid foods to their babies.
- 85 percent of parents use homemade foods during weaning, as opposed to shop bought long life jars of puréed food.
With conflicting advice on which weaning method is best for children, it is interesting to note, that families are developing their own personal and individual weaning plans to suit their babies needs.
Vital Baby’s in house weaning expert, Dr. Rana Conway, commented on the findings:
“It is interesting to see that instead of opting for just one weaning method, an increasing number of families are combining both spoon-feeding and baby-led weaning for their little ones. It is great to see that more and more parents have the confidence to create their own weaning plans based on existing guidelines and advice. Both spoon-feeding and baby-led weaning methods have their benefits and advantages, but for families it is a very personal decision. It makes perfect sense to take elements of each and do what suits their family life best.”
