Ireland’s oldest identical twins die just two days apart

identical twins, ireland's oldest twins, bond between identical twins

Kathleen left and Sheila Keogan

Ireland’s oldest known identical twins Kathleen and Sheila Keogan from Aughalion, Ballyjamesduff, Co Cavan passed away last weekend at the age of 95.

Sheila passed away on Friday morning, October 2 and, despite Kathleen not being told of her death, she followed her on Sunday afternoon.

The twins were said to live by the philosophy ‘a little bit of what you fancy does you good’.

Both Kathleen and Sheila served as nurses in London during the Second World War and retired to their hometown in Cavan.

Speaking to the Independent online their nephew Damien says: “Neither of them married but they were loved deeply by all their family, their surviving brother Sean and sister Bernadette, all their nephews and nieces and everyone that knew and loved them.
“They were wonderful ladies, full of fun, love and a sense of adventure.”

This story is another testament to unbelievable bond shared by identical twins.
