Single Parenting

One Family is an organisation specifically for one-parent families providing services to people parenting alone, sharing parenting and going through family transitions. It supports individual one-parent families as they parent through times of family, work and life change, and those experiencing a crisis pregnancy, recognising that every family is unique and working in a family centred way to bring about better lives for parents and children.

One Family provides the lo-call national helpline – askonefamily – which is staffed by trained professionals who can offer information and advice, or simply a friendly listening ear if needed, on 1890 662 212 or email [email protected]. A host of information for parents, from tips to help with the bedtime routine to the practical steps to take when the decision to separate has been made, is available on www.onefamily.ie..

Other services offered include counselling services for parents and family members of one-parent families, parents experiencing separation and those sharing parenting. Counselling services for children include play therapy. A service for young people in care is also provided.

Parenting skills courses such as Family Communications and Positive Parenting are also offered as are a range of welfare to work initiatives such as the highly praised New Futures programme, and courses for people sharing parenting after separation. One Family also offers professional development for people working with families in need of support including accredited training programmes. Find out more about One Family on www.onefamily.ie.

One Family is the founder of the annual Family Day Festival which, inspired by UN International Day of Families, promotes celebration of family diversity. In 2013 Family Day was attended by almost 10,000 happy family members who enjoyed the festivities in the Iveagh Gardens. In 2014, it takes place on Sunday 18 May with free entertainment, arts workshops, sports and performances for all members of the family. Everyone can celebrate their family and celebrate all families.
