Smartphone app could detect pregnancy
We use our smart phones daily for a lot of things; alarm clocks, notes, to do lists, photos, messaging, weather updates and generally keeping track of our hectic lives, and now it has emerged that the smart phone is about to get even smarter, after researchers at the Hanover Centre for Optical Technologies developed an app that could detect pregnancy.
The app could revolutionise the pregnancy test after the researchers involved created a self-contained fiber optic sensor that can be used to conduct a number of biomolecular tests, such as pregnancy and diabetes, via a smartphone app.
The app would see women everywhere being able to find out if they are pregnant with a few strokes of their fingertips, offering real-time results and allowing them to monitor many bodily fluids such as blood, saliva, urine and sweat.
Inventor of the app, Kort Bremer told the journal Optics Express: “We have the potential to develop small and robust lab-on-a-chip devices for smartphones.”
