If you’re suffering from a bad case of fussy eater at home, then we feel for you. Not only is it frustrating to have to make a few different meals for your child, but it can be worrying when they’re not getting the right amount of nutrition. Here are some tips to help your toddler go from fussy to fun.
Colour it in
Make sure you toddler’s plate has a few different colours on it. Ask them to name the colours and what other things are the same colour as you eat together. This can turn into an easy game, which can help distract your toddler from the task at hand – eating!
Maximise their interests
Is your child going through a dinosaur phase? Or are they super into shapes? Or cars? Play on your child’s interests by serving them food relating to their topic of current interest. Try cutting out fun shapes using cookie cutters in cheeses, lunch meats, fruits and vegetables and present with relish to your child. They won’t believe their eyes.
Rename your dishes
What’s in a name? A whole lot, as it turns out, and something as simple as renaming your super green smoothie to ‘monster juice’ might be the push your child needs to take a sip! Be creative and ask you child to help you come up with some kooky, fun names for some of your dishes.
Make a change
If your child refuses the same plate of food over and over, then something has to change. Try changing the way you serve it to them – if your sauce is mixed through your pasta, try it on the side. If your cheese is melted, try it raw and so forth. Small changes could be the thing that encourages your child to go from none to fun!
