W sitting is a sitting position often favoured by toddlers. It is when a child sits on its bottom, legs underneath and spread either side in the shape of a w. Toddlers prefer to sit in this position because it stabilises them, but it could actually be harming your child’s development. Now, we’re not saying don’t ever let your child sit like this it is dangerous but we are saying encourage your child to sit in other positions.
Experts have warned the w seating position can cause orthopaedic problems, delay development of postural control and stability and delayed development of refined motor skills.
Watch this video to find other ways you can encourage your child to sit.
