It’s been confirmed yesterday that Prince Harry and actress Meghan Markle are engaged, with the wedding looking to happen around June or July of next year.

The couple spouted a new line of rumours last weekend when Meghan was seen for the first time with a security detail. Which was a sure sign of Kate Middleton and Prince William’s engagement in 2010.

The engagement comes as a relief for all of us here watching, as we know there were some questions over whether or not Meghan would be ‘suitable’ to marry into the royal family due to her previous marriage ending in divorce. But with a future King and Queen having both gone through their own divorces, a judgement couldn’t really be passed on Ms Markle.
Cosy night in, roast chicken and a proposal
In an interview yesterday evening with Sky news, the couple admitted that though their romance has been a “whirlwind” the last five months have been a wonderful way for them to get to know each other.

Meghan commented that the proposal was very romantic, but understated, taking place in their home while they were cooking dinner together. “I think we were roasting chicken?” she commented, laughing a little. But with a small smile, she added, “He got down on one knee.” In another spur of romantic ingenuity, Prince Harry designed the ring himself using two of his mother’s diamonds as an ode to her life.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were quick to offer their congratulations to the happy couple.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said of the engagement:

Are we the only ones looking forward to royal cousins?
