Convenience is key when it comes to packed lunches. Remember the days when a packed lunch was a ham sandwich and an apple – and that was your staple lunch diet for 14 years? Well, our lucky kids won’t suffer the same fate, as we have been inundated with product news about clever solutions to filling your child’s lunch box with healthy food that’s tasty enough to guarantee no soggy leftovers when you unearth the box from the bottom of the bag that night.
Some of our favourites that have hit our inbox recently include Keelings Snack Pots –they’re not new, but the range has expanded and you can now get multipacks. Special mention for the cherry tomatoes snack pot – a big hit among the maternity & infant kiddies.
The squeezy Petit Filous pouches are also a great addition to a lunchbox – easy to eat and already a favourite among kids.
For a healthy treat, check out the Forest Feast range of nuts and dried berries. We love the Snack Pot Berries & Raisins, which contains raisins, cranberries, physalis, cherries and blueberries, with a sprinkling of yogurt coated raisins.
If you’re feeling a bit DIY, Tesco Ireland sent us a recipe that we’re dying to try – Pear Crisps. Simply wash your pears then very finely slice them, going straight through the core, and picking out any pips. Place them on a non-stick baking tray and dust with icing sugar. Place in the oven for 45 minutes to 1 hour until completely dry. They will still be pliable until they cool. Remove from the oven and transfer to cool on a wire rack until they become crispy.
