Pregnant this Christmas and tempted to indulge in a tipple? Unfortunately there is no safe alcohol limit for pregnant women, and so the official advice is to avoid alcohol completely for the full nine months. But if you’re used to enjoying a glass or two of wine, this can be painful during the festive season. De-alcoholised wine traditionally contained some alcohol – not much, but enough to make some teetotallers uneasy.
We have a bit of a love-hate relationship with de-alcoholised wine – great in theory but sometimes they leave you wondering what the point really is. But one of our favourites is Torres Natureo from Spanish winery Bodegas Torres, which won us over for its floral and fruity flavour that really can fool you into thinking you’re drinking the real stuff. The good news is that Torres Natureo is now 0.0 per cent ABV – so completely guilt-free for pregnant women, or those wanting to avoid alcohol completely. Now available from off licences and supermarkets nationwide, priced €7.99.
Prefer something different? A fruity cocktail is the perfect party alcohol-free alternative. Here’s how to make our favourite, a Shirley Temple.

125ml orange juice
125ml fizzy lemonade
1 tablespoon grenadine syrup
1 cherry, to garnish
Method
Mix orange juice and lemonade in a tall glass. Pour the grenadine in and let it sink to the bottom. Garnish with a cherry and a straw for stirring.
