Less than half of Irish parents read to their children

Less than half of Irish parents read to their children most nights. The figure stands at just 49%.

However, 84% of adults saying they see reading with their children as both a bonding and educational experience.

The research was carried out by St. Michael’s House, which provides community based services for children and adults. They are encouraging parents to make time to read with their children during World Book Week next month.

The charity is holding its annual ‘Bring A Book, Buy A Book’ fundraising campaign, where schools, businesses and communities donate their second hand books which are then sold for €2 each.
