Your Dating Profile Might be Putting Your Kids at Risk

There’s no shame in getting back into the dating game. You could meet someone in a coffee shop, at work, on a blind date, or with a dating profile. There are hundreds of ways to meet and connect with people now-a-days. For those who use on-line dating sites though be careful of what images you share on your profile.

A recent study conducted by mummypages.ie states that 77 per cent of single Irish dads share photos of their children on their Tinder account. Only 19 per cent of single Irish mums show pictures of their children.

Sharing photos of your children on-line can be extremely dangerous now-a-days. In the most recent years, more and more children have been “digitally kidnapped”. Though the child is not actually kidnapped, their identity is stolen. Parents have logged onto the web to find pictures of their children featured as new kinds of avatars or “baby role-players”. Account users steal images of babies and children off the Internet, give them a new name, and claim them as their own.

Laura Haugh, a spokeswomen for mummypages.ie said, “Of course, some single parents prefer to be upfront with potential suitors; however the text summary section of your Tinder profile allows you to do this without putting your children at risk to paedophiles trawling the internet.”

By simply writing “mum” or “proud dad of two” in your profile you can protect your child from on-line predators. Some on-line users can be “harmless” with simply reposting your photo but there is also the potential threat of the image being used in a sinister way by sexual predators.

Haugh also said,“All parents are innately proud of their children, but as much as your children are the number one priority in your life and you want potential dates to know that, their privacy and safety should be borne in mind. In fact, they probably wouldn’t thank you in later years if they knew their images were used in such a way.”

Be careful what images you use for your dating profile.
