Recipe: Jelly with natural flavours

Kid’s love jelly. And that’s almost an understatement. But too many sugary snacks can lead to diabetes in later life and some dental issues, so it’s best to steer clear from sugar-laden desserts, which is what makes this recipe so perfect for our families! Fun fact: Did you know it’s also a great snack for pregnant women? It can help to prevent stretch marks and saggy skin when the baby is born!

The natural flavours and ingredients also mean you know exactly what’s going into your kid’s tummies. Here’s how to make it!

Ingredients

2 cups of fruit juice – freshly squeezed if possible, or just ‘not from concentrate’
2 tablespoons of gelatin (about 4 sheets)
Honey
½ cup of raw fruit (optional)

Method

Pour the juice into a saucepan and add the gelatin. Stir gently until it has dissolved. Turn the heat on to medium and gently simmer for ten minutes. Turn off the heat and let it sit for no longer than 2 minutes (any longer and the jelly will clump). Stir and taste (add in honey to your own preference), and add in the raw fruit. Pour your jelly into any mould you like and let it set in the fridge for 3 to 4 hours at least, preferably overnight. Enjoy on its own or with ice cream!
