Being pregnant takes a toll on the body no matter what time of the year, with morning sickness, kicks, hormones and heartburn, but all this plus heat can be ten times worse. As well as your natural body temperature rising when you’re pregnant, extra heat can be very unwelcome and leave you feeling tired and uncomfortable. But we’ve got you covered with these super ‘cool’ tips to keep your body temperature under wraps during the heatwave!

1. Drink plenty of water

This one’s obvious. Make sure you’re drinking plenty of fluids when the weather is hot.

2. Take plenty of showers

Showers are a great and easy way to cool your whole body down when you feel like you’re overheating, and will also keep your temperature stabilised at a cooler level.

3. Wear loose, cotton clothing

Wearing loose clothing allows for more air and room for the skin to breathe, limiting perspiration. Cotton and linen are the best fabrics for warm weather.

4. Carry a water-spray

This will be your best friend when you’re feeling hot and need a quick cool-me-down. Spray a little bit of a natural water spray on the face, neck and decolletage. La Roche Posay’s Au Thermale water spray will do the job perfectly.

5. Eat smaller and lighter portions

We’re the first to say this point sounds almost impossible when you have a craving or want to eat for the comfort, however there is science to this madness, we swear! Eating lighter and smaller meals means less digestive work for your metabolism. Eating big portions requires lots of energy for digestion, in turn causing the internal body temperature to rise. So if you can, maybe lighten the portions down if in warm weather.

6. Use a damp washcloth

Sponging your forehead and the back of the neck with a cool, damp washcloth is a quick solution when you’re feeling a little too warm.
