We’ve always been told that red wine is good for us but we never cared enough to ask why, we simply asked for another glass of Merlot. According to two recent studies from Washington State University and Harvard Medical School, wine might just be the secret weapon to losing weight.
Here is why — there’s a polyphenol called resveratrol which is found in red wine that transforms “white fat” into “beige fat”. According to researchers at WSU, “beige fat” is much easier to burn off naturally. Researchers at Harvard studied roughly 20,000 women over the course of 13 years and determined that those who drank two glasses of red wine daily were 70 percent less likely to be overweight.
So why does the time of wine consumption matter?Another study from the University of Arizona found that resveratrol also helps suppress your appetite, meaning that after a glass or two of red, you’re much less likely to raid the fridge for a late-night snack.
If wine is not your thing, have no fear! Other major sources of resveratrol can be found in blueberries, strawberries and grapes.
